In Style – Mixing Prints

Although it’s starting to get colder in our fall season, last week was absolutely beautiful and I wanted to take full advantage of it. I know some of you may live in places where the weather is warm all year round so I wanted to show a more polished look that can be perfect for cocktails with some work friends. I’ve posted something similar in this category of not knowing what to wear when meeting with co-workers. You want to look appropriate but would love to amp the look up because you’re finally getting to meet outside the office. I think this is a perfect look for those occasions.

A Great Off the Shoulder Top

I have to say I love a great off the shoulder top. It can be so sexy without showing too much skin. I purchased this basic navy top from H&M and I always find they have a great basics section. Not only do they always have simple tops in every color but they are honestly so inexpensive.

When it comes to wearing an off the shoulder top you don’t want to overdo it with a short skirt. That is always my advice, try to make it as sexy as you want but keep it classy img_2640-copywhen it comes to a meeting with work friends. An off the shoulder top with a mini skirt is great when you’re going out for dinner and drinks with your close girlfriends but may not be as appropriate for a work event. This is why I picked this knee length pencil skirt. Not only do I love the print on this skirt but I love the mesh detail at the hem. It adds something extra when it comes to textures.

Even though I had an all navy look, I went for a black and white combo with my shoes and bag. I really felt that this color combo would work for this look.

KNOWING HOW TO MIX & MATCH PRINTS

Mixing different types of prints can be quite a struggle at times. You don’t want to go overboard and have too much, this just makes it confusing and your eye doesn’t know where to focus. That’s why I love and always rely on stripes. I feel that in most cases, no matter the print, a strip pattern will always go. I wanted to add something extra to this look and this is where this stripped bag comes into play.

It’s All In The Details…

I feel that with this type of look you want to keep the jewelry simple and delicate. This will accentuate your shoulders and bring more attention to your neckline. You don’t want to hide it behind a big chunky necklace, not in this case. You want to show off your features in such a flattering top. I believe if you wanted a statement piece of jewelry it would work better with a great bracelet or several smaller stacked bracelets. You don’t want the jewelry to be the focal point, rather you want people to look at the colors and prints in your outfit.img_2684-copyimg_2699-copy
