Styling Men’s Clothing

Hello everyone! I hope your week is going well thus far! I recently made some purchases during the black Friday weekend sales and picked up a few men’s pieces as well. I know a lot of times you can be really hesitant to shop in the men’s section at first. You have no clue how the style will fit and if oversized becomes just too big. I put together some of my best advice for when you’re shopping men’s for the first time!

Start Off Simple

In the beginning I would first try on something simple like a button down shirt in the smallest size and work your way up. Whether you want a super oversized look or just need to figure out what size you would roughly be in men’s, picking up the basic fit would be the best way to gage what will work best for you.

Remember, when it comes to sizes, shirts, tees, and sweaters can all vary just like in women’s clothing!

In some cases I who wear a x-small or small in most things, can even go for a medium in men’s tees when I want that perfect oversized look.

Getting That Perfect Pair of Boyfriend Jeans

This can be A LOT trickier. In terms of jeans and pants, men’s are cut completely different then women’s for obvious reasons. However, that shouldn’t make you shy away from taking a look! The key is to do some trying on and seeing which brands of men’s jeans actually fit you well. I have three go-to places for this: Club Monaco, G-Star RAW, and J. Crew. They have certain cuts that fit great for my body type and the look I’m going for.

Just as with women’s there are different types of slim cuts and low or high waisted styles. Don’t be shy to ask an associate what could work for you!

The reason I actually really like men’s jeans when it comes to a boyfriend look is the sloughy effect that I can get as well as the different elements that come with men’s jeans. Some brands the men’s jeans are truly better than the women’s!

How To Style The Look Together

For most people I know that wearing men’s clothing there’s that worry of “I won’t look feminine” or “It’s going to look ridiculous on me”. You need to get those thoughts out of your head immediately! Fashion is all about experimenting different looks and there’s nothing wrong with that. In terms of wanting to still look feminine I always make sure to balance my look. I also want to still look chic and feminine even when I am wearing men’s clothing. So as with the look here, I chose super fitting faux leather leggings and low cut sneakers to show off my legs. This balances the look out better.

When putting a look together I always say to opt for one or the other, either the top will be oversized or the bottom. If you do both it can make the whole look seem too big and oversized and not show your figure whatsoever. If you have the top oversized, then wear a skinny jean or a short skirt, show them legs off girl! If you decide you wanna rock some boyfriend jeans then wear a fitted top or a crop top to show off the stomach.

The most important thing is that you feel good in what you’re wearing.

Whether it be men’s or women’s clothing, make sure you enjoy the look you have on because the most important thing about what you chose to wear is that you feel confident!

I hope this was helpful!
